Ang Kabataang Filipino sa Makabagong Panahon

Maniniwala ka ba na ang mga kabataang Filipino ngayon, kahit na kami'y rebelde, suwail, magastos at minsa'y walang pakialam, ay nag-iisip din kung ano ang dapat naming gawin upang umangat sa buhay? Maniwala ka. Kami'y nag-iisip din ng paraan para hindi tumunganga na lamang sa aming pagtanda.

Tama, may mga pagkakamali kaming nakamit. Hindi mo ito mabibilang at madalas ang mga pagkakamaling ito ay nagdudulot ng walang kapantay na sakit at sama ng loob sa aming mga magulang. Dulot pa nito'y dagdag-rebelde kapag napagalitan o napagsabihan lamang. Inaamin ko, kami'y mga batang umaarteng alam na ang lahat, ayaw naming magpadaig at mapagalitan. Sino bang nais na laging pinapagalitan? Alam naman namin na para sa amin iyon. Madalas, maririnig mo na masyadong mapagtuklas at agresibo ang mga kabataan ngayon dahil sa paningin na hindi ka in kung hindi mo kahit minsan ma'y suwayin ang mga magulang mo. Nakaka-high! sa mga salita ng isang binatilyong minsa'y sumubok at habang panahong nalulong. Suriin natin ang paligid ng mga kabataang ito. Sa squatter's area na lamang, halimbawa, ang paligid doo'y hindi kaaya-aya, pugad ng krimen at mga nagdodroga. Ang kapaligiran ay isang malaking salik at mas lalo na ang mga tao roon. Kilala mo ba si Eminem? Isa siyang sikat na rapper, sa Amerika at maging dito sa Pilipinas. Madaming umiidolo sa kanya at maging sa kanyang mga kanta. Pero kung naiintindihan mo ang mga liriko ng kanyang mga kanta ay makikita mong siya'y biktima ng isang madilim na nakaraan. Ano bang gagawin mo kung makikita mong binubugbog ng iyong ama ang iyong ina? At ang iyong ina, sa harap mo'y umiinom ng kung anu-anong gamot na ikinalulong niya? Naging magulo ang buhay ni Eminem noong kabataan niya at kita pa rin sa kanya ang hindi naghihilom at masaklap na sugat ng nakaraan. Ngunit siya'y halimbawa ng isang mabuting ama. Ibinubuhos niya sa kanyang anak na babae ang kanyang pagmamahal, at kitang ayaw niyang maranasan nito ang karanasang hindi na niya nais pang maalala.

Maaaring naghahanap lamang ng atensyon ang ibang kabataang nagrerebelde. Ipalagay nating nais ng isang binata ang makapiling ang kanyang mga magulang na gabi na umuuwi dahil sa pagkasubsob sa trabaho kaya gumagawa siya ng paraan upang makuha ang kanilang atensyon. Maaaring nais din ng isang kabataan na maramdamang siya'y tanggap. Nais niyang maramdaman na may kalalagyan siya kaya ginagawa niya ang mga nais ng kinabibilangan niyang grupo. Hindi rin naman mapagkakailang may mag kabataang sadyang rebelde, agresibo at lubhang mapagtuklas. May mga nalululong nang labis sa mga bawal na gamot, may mga maagang nabubuntis at nagiging miserable, may mga gumagawa ng krimen na mga menor de edad pa lamang at may mga nagpapakamatay sa 'di malamang dahilan. Hindi natin matatanggal na talagang may mga kabataang nalilihis ang landas.

Minsa'y nasa mga nagpapalaki din naman 'yan, kung talagang nagkulang sila sa paalala at pagsuporta, paggabay at pag-alaga. Mahalaga ang paggabay sa kabataan sapagkat gaya nga ng sabi ng mga matatanda, hindi lahat ay alam na ng kabataan.

Hindi rin naman dapat idamay lahat ng kabataan sa mga pagkakamaling nagawa na ng iba. Kung hindi nagkukulang sa tamang paggabay at pagpapaalala ang mga magulang sa kanyang anak, ano ang dahilan upang maging pabaya ang isang bata? Nasa desisyon din 'yan ng isang kabataan kung paano ang paggawa ng landas na tatahakin niya. Hindi dapat hatulan ang kabataan dahil sa mga sabi-sabi at pala-palagay lamang dahil hindi lahat ay mga sira ulo't nagdodroga, mga may bisyo't suwail at mga rebelde.

Himalang maituturing ang isang batang pinili ang edukasyon kaysa droga. Marami pa naman ang gumagawa ng himalang ito. Hindi ba natin ito nakikita? May pag-asa pa. Ang negatibong pananaw sa kabataan ngayon ay mali naman, 'di ba?

Ang mga matatanda'y minsa'y naging mga kabataan din. Sinuway din nila ang kanilang mga magulang, nagpadala din sa barkada nila. Hindi sila dapat mawalan ng pag-asa bagkus ay bigyan kami ng pag-asa. Isang tanong lang ang nasasaisip ko. Bakit kapag mali'y sobra-sobra ang pagpuna samantalang kapag tama, minsan pa'y nakakaligtaang kilalanin? Madaming kayang gawin ang mga kabataan. Maabilidad kami't matatalino, madaming ideya't malikhain kaya bakit 'di niyo kami bigyan ng pagkakataong mapatunayan ang mga maaari naming magawa?

Kabataan nga kami, pero may sariling pananaw at pag-iisip din. Hindi kami manhid sa mga sakripisyong ginagawa ng aming mga magulang at kahit papaano'y mulat din kami sa mundong ginagalawan nating lahat. Sa pagtagal ng panahon, lalo pang lumalawak ang pang-unawa namin sa buhay, kung sa paggising ba nami'y may naghihintay na kinabukasan at tagumpay. Mahirap bang paniwalaan? Hindi din natin alam. Tulad na lamang ni Winston Churchill na malakas uminom at madaming bisyo, sino bang mag-aakalang magiging isa siyang mabuting pinuno? At si Adolf Hitler na walang bisyo't malusog ang magiging puno't dulo ng isang pandaigdigang digmaan? Malay ba natin na ang mga kabataang suwail at rebelde ang magiging pag-usad ng kabuhayan at kinabukasan ng ating bansa sa hinaharap? Isang survey ang lumabas sa Asya na nagsasabing ang mga kabataan daw ngayon, kahit na sila'y magastos, mataas ang pagnanasang kumita ng malaki at nais sa buong mundo'y magtagumpay, ay may malasakit at nais pa rin na maging mapayapa ang mundo kaysa makita itong bumagsak. Mas nais daw nilang tumira sa mundong walang gulo. Ang kabataan ay hindi makasarili. Sino ba ang nagsabing 'di kami nagmamalasakit?

Alam ng lahat na masarap ang maging kabataan. Masarap magkaroon ng kalayaan, mabigyan ng pera araw-araw, gastusin ito, magsaya na parang wala nang bukas at isipin ang gagawin sa susunod na araw. Hindi mo 'to matatanggal sa isang bata. Pero kami na ang nagsasabi, sa paglipas ng panahon, napagtatanto din naman namin na pag-unlad ang nais namin. Alam ng mga makabagong isip namin na ang buhay ay hindi puro sarap, minsa'y kailangan mong sumugal at maghirap upang makamit ang nais na tagaumpay. Hindi kami magiging pabigat sa aming pagtanda kami ang pag-asa ng Inang Bayan at hindi namin kayo bibiguin!
